What We believe
Emmaus Mission Statement
The mission of Emmaus Baptist Church is to share the good news of Jesus Christ so that people will come to know him and grow in his likeness.
Emmaus Vision Statement
Our purpose is to honor our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by carrying out His command to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). Specifically, we believe God has called us to focus on reaching those in Genoa and the surrounding area who do not regularly attend any church.
To accomplish this, Emmaus Baptist Church will be an equipping center where every Christian can be developed to his or her full potential for ministry. This development will come through: inspiring worship; teaching that is biblical and relevant to life; vital, supportive fellowship and opportunities for outreach into the community in service and evangelism.
As a result, the Genoa area will be different in ten to fifteen years, with the Christian influence being increasingly prevalent in homes, businesses, education and politics. We further intend to multiply our worldwide ministry by supporting the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program, by planting churches ourself, by preparing our people for leadership roles in vocational ministries, by sending out missionaries and by becoming a resource center and model for Illinois and the nation.
Introduction to Southern Baptists
The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest protestant denomination in the United States. The convention consists of more than 50,000 churches. Each church is autonomous and has made the decision to voluntarily enter into cooperation for the purpose of doing missions around the world. The Southern Baptist Convention is one of the most culturally diverse religious groups in the world and is blessed to have the largest international missions force in the world (5,000 missionaries).
